How It All Began
Since opening our doors in 1989, Richard’s New Mexican Restaurant has been a cherished neighborhood gem, rooted in a passion for authentic, wholesome cuisine. Founded by Richard Viramontes and his wife, Carla, our restaurant was built on the belief that great food has the power to bring people together. Today, that vision still infuses every dish we serve.
In 1990, Liz Trujillo joined our team as a server and quickly embracing the warm, community-focused spirit of Richard’s. Nearly three decades later, in 2018, Liz stepped into the role of owner and operating manager, ensuring that the legacy of fresh, flavorful, and healthful New Mexican cooking endures.

At Richard’s, we stay true to the traditions that made us a staple in the community. We continue to use Richard’s signature ingredients, including whole wheat tortillas, red potatoes, and chiles made without flour or lard. Our menu features an extensive selection of vegetarian and vegan options including our famous lentils & brown rice, catering to those who seek both taste and nutrition. And, of course, we proudly serve our famous fideo—a beloved regional dish of toasted fideo noodles simmered in a rich tomato broth, and carne adovada.

"This is by far the absolute worst “Mexican food” I’ve ever had ! It’s flavorless and unseasoned with a sloppy presentation! Salsa taste like canned tomatoes with tiny bit of spice! They definitely need to remove the “Mexican Restaurant” from the name and just call it Richard’s! What a disgrace🤮"

"Went for a week day lunch, about 11 am. Chips and really great salsa were brought out first while we looked over the menu. I had the combination plate consisting of chile relleno, blue corn cheese enchiladas, a taco and beans & rice. It was good. The relleno was really my favorite. Food was also served with sopapillas and honey. Service was decent. I ordered a burrito to go, also, with beans, rice, and cheese and an order of sopapillas. The rice was not put in the burrito, didn't realize til I was home. The sopapillas were not put in with the order, just like the rice, but the woman who handed me my food (probably owner/manager, not our server) got an order out to me quickly. Much appreciated. I will be back."
